Secret Santa

Yay!! My class chose each others secret santas yesterday.
I was really looking forward to it.
My class is starting on Monday.
We will have to bring presents for at least three days.
I hope my secret santa won't catch me. ^-^

Volley Ball

Today, the senior team did sport. I did Volleyball. I really like volleyball because you get to work as a team. The one problem I made was passing the ball around.
I always forget to pass the ball after I catch it.
But I still reckon that VolleyBall is a great game/sport to play.

Sarah's Long jump

On Thursday, in the afternoon, my class went out for long jump, which is good news for me because I love long jump!
First the girls went first for practice, then on the 3rd time we did the real jump.
And good news again I came 2nd, my favourite number!!
Same with the boys, two times practice and a jump.

Athletics

It is coming up to the athletics, but I don't like doing the long distance because I am not very good at it. My favourite is high jump, long jump and sprints. I'm not that good at high jump and I am okay at long jump and sprints.

Sarah's student led conference

On Thursday my mum came to my class to see what I am learning and what I have learnt this year.
Student Led Conference.
First of all Claudia, Daisy and some others did our mihi to the parents and I think I did pretty good with that.
Then I showed mum my folder and books. Mum was really proud of what I have learnt this year. I also showed her the room 10 blog.
I showed mum: my calendar art, my self portrait that I drew, ect...
It was awesome!!!

I was really impressed by with the presentations of the childrens Mihi's. Amazing confidence and accuracy with some difficult pronunciation. Great to see such achievement.

Sarah's Fitness

On Wednesday Daisy, Angela and I did fitness in the morning.  We played the game Sardines, and at the end of the game, everyone admitted it was a great game.  But then we thought that the last people might get sad.  But in fact, they were looking rather happy so it wasn't a problem.  At the start I didn't like sport or games, but right now I think I am really enjoying the class games and sport.  I am really looking forward to the next fitness game.

What do you like best

Blogger is a great website to let people know what you are liking at school.  People also use face book or Bebo to do this, and  you can look at who it is from and give comments.  So which do you prefer.... Bebo or face book or blogger?  I prefer face book because you can play games.

Fitness Roster

For the past week or so we have been doing a fitness roster.
This is when a few people have a game ready for their day. But you must have everything you need. My group includes me, Daisy and Sarah. We decided to play a game called Sardines. This is like a game of hide-and-seek but instead of everyone going to hide and one person finding them, it is when one person goes and hides and the other people have to find that person. Also when you find the person you have to hide with them until everyone has come. Our group is probably 1 of the 3 groups who got to play their games because other days we would have no time to play or we would have forgotten.
I hope that we can carry on with the fitness roster next term.

Sarah's calender Art

Room 10 has started drawing our calender art a few days ago and I have finished mine.
To be honest I am really proud. I have done, a picture of me in the middle of my calender art,
the picture of my friends in the top right hand side, a F.O.S sign in the top left hand side,
the teachers on the left bottom side and in the right bottom side I did a Wearable sign.

Kiwisport

In the past two weeks we have been in sports on every day except Tuesday because we have had Kiwisport with Christchurch Boys High. They have been teaching us touch rugby. At the end, we got lollies. I have had fun, and also we gave them a copy of "Stop Sign", our song that Gus and I made up.

CHCH Boys High School Sport.

I really enjoyed the sport that we did with some people from Boys High. The sport that we did was touch rugby. I learnt how to pass and catch the ball. At the end we gave them are card the Daisy and I had made and we got the whole team to sign. It was really funny because at the first session we all swapped names and they didn't know until when we gave them the card we told them what our real names were!

Big Chess

I like it how they have put the big chess out again. They should have a roster for two people to have a go at morning tea and lunch.

The new craze

Go go's are the new craze at our school. Everyone has them and I started them up. They are little plastic things. You flick them around and play lots of games with them, like keeps, first that KO, and knock off. They're cool!!

google doodle

Doing my google doodle was really fun and I enjoyed doing it lots. It took me a while to get my final design and make it but in the end it was pretty great. I had lots of fun and now I have finished the final copy of it.  It has an All Blacks background and a few artifacts of NZ for the letters.

West Zone Soccer Tournament

On Tuesday we went on bus to Hagley Park.I'm captain so I had to carry the bag. It was so annoying but after a while you got use to it. After we got to the fields we had a meeting about the rules and the teams that are competing: Middleton Grange, Ilam,Burnside, and some others I can't remember. We won all our games except for one we drew. It all depended on points now because they won all their games as well. Unfortunately they had scored more points, so they get to go to the Centrals. After the tournament, we went to wearable arts.

Ski Race By Alex

I'm looking forward to the ski race on Sunday and using my skill's at skiing and my improved ski's. My mum gave my ski's to a ski shop so they can sharpen them and wax them. I was taught by my mum to ski, she once held the title for best skier in NZ and she has lots of medals and trophy's at home.

Christchurch boys High sport teaching

Earlier this week on Monday , Wednesday and Thursday The Seniors of Christchurch Boys High School came to our school to teach the seniors sporting games for some fitness(because we firstly were too busy with our wearable arts and we haven't had the time for P.E )they came every year to tech us tons of fun sports and games.

The whole senior school were split up into groups for sports.
My instructors were Monty and Malcolm and they were so Funny.

The good thing is that we are having sports with Boys High again next week on the same days as this week so we will have as much fun!!!!

On Monday I was doing basketball!!!
Then on Wednesday we played touch!!!
and on Thursday we played touch again!!!!

I absolutely cant wait till next weeks sports and I am hoping next week to do hockey and soccer.

Cross Country

On September the 24th me and the cross country team are going up to Nelson for a run with all the the other finalists from different schools.e are traveling up in cars but the Canterbury team e.g Harry Henry and Emily and the rest of the Canterbury team are going up in buses.

Google doodle

Nearly the whole school had started doing google doodle, which is just adding doodles to the "Google" sign.
There are prizes like a laptop or a special white board marker.
You will get a draft paper that says GOOGLE and we can colour and draw anything that contains "New Zealand".
And in the publishing, there is a paper that says GOOGLE really slightly.

My google doodle is mostly about korus and kiwis.

Andy Griffiths trip

Andy Griffiths is really funny and would make a great comedian. He writes his books by taking an idea and turning it around to what people wouldn't expect is going to happen. I love reading his books and am a really big fan of his so when we got told that we were going to see him I got really exited. Going to see Andy Griffiths was really fun and I was so happy as I walked out of those town hall doors.

Amazing Andy Griffiths!

Yesterday we went to the Town Hall to listen to Andy Griffiths. He told us how to write good stories. Also he told us some bad jokes that are funny because it's such a terrible joke, here are some that I remember:

Q:Why did the boy fall off his bike?
A:Because his mother threw a fridge at him!

Q:How did the boy end up in hospital with a very serious condition?
A:Because he got run over by a truck that was driven by his mother!

Andy also told about some of his crazy ideas, which are:
1. Never super glue yourself into a shower with the water running and
2. never let a baby meet a dinosaur in the middle of the road.

HA-HA-HA!

Andy Griffiths

On Wednesday the 12th of August the whole Senior school went to see Andy Griffiths at the town hall.
We all had fun but my favorite bit was when he got out his character Bananas in balaclavas that was funny.
My lest favorite bit was when he called me an idiot!
But in the end we all had fun!

Canterbury Cross Country Team

For the cross country team we have to do one-hundred minutes per week of running leading up to the race in Nelson.

So far I have raised just over half of the money I needed to raise.
In total we need to have run one-thousand minutes.
I am the captain for the year 6 boys, the roles needed to be a captain are calling the role at training and organising the team.

Wearable Arts

On the 3rd~4th August the Wearable Arts was held at the Ngaio Marsh theatre.
Rm 10 performed in the category man made NZ. In our dance we showed different figures being made and at the end we made the 2 letter NZ. We fell like domino's and we were supposed to have glow sticks but Paulette took them to Australia so we couldn't use them.

My Costume group modeled in the category Natural NZ.
We got out of tune in the gumboot song but kapahaka was fine( wasn't out of tune!!!)
And at the very end Mrs Gordon got a bouquet of flowers.
Obviously Room 10's dance was the best though.

Wearable Arts

I think that our class went really well with the wearable arts. At the end we did the NZ and when I saw a photo of it I thought it looked really cool. My mum also said that when we did the movements at the start with our arms she said we did it really boldly and we did it at the same time.

My Google Doodle

I chose to do my Google Doodle in Koru's. I chose Koru's because that is a maori design that we only have in New Zealand. I have made a big Koru run through all the letters and a few little ones inside the letters. In Google, I chose the L to make into a bog Koru.
By Molly.

Town hall Choir

At town hall Choir our teacher is Miss Kincaid. We sing funny, exciting and odd songs. Most of the girls don't want to do it, but in my defence I kind of like it. But EVERYONE from the north west choir HAS to be in it and I like north west choir WAAAAAAAAY better!!!!!

Google Doodle!!!

Google Doodle s a competition that the whole of room 10 are entering.
Sadly only 8 people from each school are allowed and their are already four classes entering.
Google Doodle is a competition for kids all over Aotearoa to enter.
Have you ever seen not just the normal GOOGLE logo but it has a cool design in it for special days of the year.
Well now it is the chance for kiwi kids to have a go at getting their cool and arty design on the GOOGLE start page.
The prize if you are the lucky winner is of coarse getting your design on the GOOGLE start page for 24 hours,A LAPTOP!!!!(i need a laptop)a interactive white board for your class and tons of equipment for your school!!!
I have entered my GOOGLE design quite basic as Mount Cook and a fern right next to the "L".
I am crossing my fingers in the hope of winning the awsome Competition GOOGLE DOODLE!!!

Bullying

This week (week 4, term 3) we have been talking about bully's. We have had sessions on bullying we recently have been doing a bully survey so people at our school can feel safer as the bully's are being dealt with. Just this morning we talked about how it makes you feel if you are being bullied and how bad it is just to watch them getting bullied and not helping them. My opinion is its sickening watch them and not helping and when people run off crying its sad. Some kids in our class feel that they're going to be a bit embarrassed when they say something and scared that others will laugh. I still cant believe that bullying is happening at Fendalton.

Well done guys!

I have been so proud of our class over the last few days. We have had so much going on - Wearable Arts, Cycle Safety, ICAS tests, Sports tournaments........and yet, everyone has kept a sense of humour, looked after each other, and put in their top effort in everything they've done.

Congratulations to each and everyone in Room 10 for their performance and effort, especially in the Wearable Arts. I have felt very privileged to be a part of it!

Slow, screeching skis sliding over short, slushy, slippery, snow on skinny slopes.
Soaring snow makers, speeding snowmobiles, scoring screaming snowboarders.

We made each other beautiful

There was bogus blood and balloons.

How's your German?

Someone has changed your blog settings to German!

I think this is quite funny, however it does mean that there is someone who is 'playing with your blog' without talking to Mrs Harford first! Remember this is a shared tool that is to support your learning.

Technology Challenges

On Tuesdays we have been extending our knowledge on how to make stable and strong stuctures as part of our prior learning for the wearable arts. Paulette has been giving us technology challenges for us to create differnet objects using different materials.

This week we had 20minutes to make the tallest structure. It had to be stable, have a strong base, be free standing (at least 30 sec) and only be made out of 1 sheet of newspaer and 1 meter of cellotape.

So far we have found out that you need a strong base as this makes the structure stand better. Shapes like triangles, squares, rectanges and circles can make good bases. It is important to crease the paper to make it stronger and to plan our ideas before we start by talking in our groups.

This is us at work.

Feedback - Fendalton Friends

I was really impressed with how Liam and Eric led their Fendalton Friends group today.

They spoke with confidence, they ensuring everyone's ideas were listened to. I heard words like 'respect' mentioned during the conversations, plus they involved the entire group. It was great how you showed the younger students that it is important for you to know everyone's name!

What superb Dream Makers you both are!

Here is a slideshow of photos from today showing you leading:

I really like the background of mine because it makes the main figure stand out. With my face I could have taken a little bit more time so there would be no white gaps but otherwise I like it.

TREE CLIMBING

The tree was like a twenty story building.
Well, thats what it looked like. This is the real story:
tree climbing.

On the 2nd of March Room 10 went to Hanmer Springs Forest
Camp. Group B did this:

We first met the instructor- Carl. He told us the safety rules and what equipment to wear. The helmet and the belt. I hated the helmet because there was the smell of sweat coming from it.

When I saw the climbing tree I was nervous. When it was my turn I had no time to think but climb. The parents and teachers where pulling the ropes that were attached to me.

This was challenging.
When I was halfway up I looked down. AARRGH!
The parents and my friends looked like ants!!
I was tired but kept on going. I DID IT!! I MADE IT UP TO THE TOP!!!

After we all climbed the trees we went back to our camp.
What a day!

My Best Camp EVER!!

My Best Camp Ever!!!

We arrived at this great big sign saying 230 hours to the waterfall.
Oh my mistake 2 hours and 30 minutes!

We arrived at camp on the first day and set up our bunkrooms. I was a bit excited because we were going on a waterfall hike, which was in the forest. My activity group B were going with groups A and D.

We assembled on the grassed area and Mr Norton was giving instructions. All the children were wearing backpacks. I still felt a bit excited about doing the waterfall hike. We drove to where the walk started.

We walked in our activity groups. We saw lots of bees buzzing around black trees. Some parts where really hard but some were easy. I heard lots of birds twittering.

When we got to the waterfall we all smiled excitedly. I felt the icy cold water, It was freezing. I heard the water crashing on the rocks as it fell to the ground.

It was really exciting to see the water fall 40meters to the ground. I took off my shoes and put my feet in the water.

I was exhausted and tired but is was worth it.

Ratsy

Curtains sweeping across the softly breathing stage.
Screaming microphones, booming speakers and crazy cameras.
Singing, dancing and rehearsing on centre stage.
People’s stomachs flipping while waiting backstage.
Burning heat coming from the burning spotlights.
Lights, camera, ACTION!
Here she is, it’s Ratsy!

Terrific tree climbing

My mission is to be able to do what ever a monkey can do.
I have 60 minutes to complete the task and get ready for the test.

It was the 2nd of March 2009, It was the second day of room 10’s Hanmer Camp. At around 8:00 am, Group B went tree climbing

First our instructor- Carl, explained how to put on a harness and choose a good size helmet. So I grabbed a harness and put it on.

Carl explained the rules about tree climbing.

1. Scratch your nose, Don’t pick it.
2. Yell “free chocolate” if you want to be checked.
3. Yell “bananas” when you have reached the top.
4. That there was a group of three that pulled in all the extra ropes.

Carl said “Girls stay at this tree and boys go to the other tree.

Finally it was my turn on the first tree. I got clipped in and yelled
“free chocolate!” once I was checked I started to climb the tree.
Then I got to the top said “Bananas!” to come down.

Once everyone had a go the boys and the girls swapped trees.

I was first on this tree, I got clipped in and got checked. Then I started to climb. I had no trouble climbing, until about half way through. I was in a bit of a problem but I used my brain and I put left leg up on the branch behind me to jump off. And before you know it I was at the top. Ready to come down.

I started to wait to have a go on the second hardest tree. But then I thought about doing the hardest one so I went for it!

I kept climbing and climbing, stopping every now and then for a rest. But at one point I couldn’t reach a single branch aProxy-Connection: keep-alive

I was so close to the top.

I still came down, with a whole different experience in my body. I was more excited than ever! And the test was all about how much fun I could have!

Rat Collages

The Best Climb Ever By Alex

It was the 3rd of March and Room 7 and 10 from Fendalton School were on camp at Hanmer Forest Camp site. Group A, thats the group that I was in Alex McNicoll were about to go to meet our instructor and go to the tallest thing in the world. Mr Norton our sport teacher was talking about who our instructor was and what we would be doing.

“Group A”, Mr Norton said, “will be with Heather.”

Heather came to get us and took us to our doom.

Heather told us all the rules. She told us to put on a harness. I looked over and saw it. The tallest thing in the world!! It was the size of two sky scrapers and we had to climb it. The misty air up in the sky was big and strong. I probably couldn’t see up there let alone survive up there. Luckily there were smaller things that I could climb so I started with that.

I tried the first one it was scary still. I tried the second one IT WAS FREAKY.

It was time, time to climb the world. I started climbing. I was up to the misty air I could just see this is going to be my death. I could see the top just. I stabbed my sharp claws into the hard surface. Oh no I fell I was falling really slow I must be gliding down.

It turns out that I was being slowly let down. So this wasn’t going to be my death.

Teams Triathlon by Henry

Teams Triathlon

I am freezing cold, with goose bumps and hairs standing on end.

I was at the School swimming pool for the team’s triathlon on the 25th of February 2009.

From the time I came to school, to the time we raced, I was as nervous as nervous as could be.

It was a long wait till it was my teams heat.

BANG!!!

Splash we all dived and we were off to a flying start. My

heart was pounded and I believed in myself that my team could win. One of the adults teams was well ahead, I didn’t want to get beaten so I pushed harder and persevered in myself.

There was 5 meters left in the pool. I got out and ran to find Alex. He yelled and yelled, I found him and tagged him.

We triumphantly won the year 5/6 boys.
