Soap Carving

Yesterday Miles Kaukau came in to teach us how to soap carve once again.
I had a lot of fun.
I had a little bit of trouble because my raindrop came out too small but the decorations made it better.
I had learned how to make decorations.

Soap carving by CC

Today Mr KauKau came in and we did some soap carving. It was so fun because we did no school work. It took all day to do it but was worth it. We put Paua in it. We used different types of carving knifes to carve it. I really enjoyed it.

Soap Carving

Today we did soap carving with Mr Kaukau. It was heaps of fun and very challenging! First Mr Kaukau told us things about respecting our elders and then we got on to the fun part, DOING THE SOAP CARVING!! Our designs represent our family, and your mum and dad are the big bits of paua and your brothers and sisters are the korus on the sides of the carving. You have to use lots of detail when carving your soap and you have to be very skilled like Mr Kaukau, Megan and Molly. Overall Megan's turned out all right, but Molly's was a total mess!!

Hanmer Hike
“Come on Claudia we just need to reach the sign”, I puffed ”but what does the sign say,”shouted Claudia."I can’t seem to see what the sign says....dang it””what is it” another 3 hours.” “Double dang it.” Claudia puffed.
Rm 7 and 10 went to Hanmer Springs forest camp last Monday.

“Hey Daisy we’re in luck””I hear it too”
“We must be at the waterfall””Hey Molly””Yes””are we there yet””no it’s just the rushing of the river”
“oh man”I moaned.

Finally at the river crossing and dodging all the sticks and stones.I could smell the fredom of nature and I could see the birds drinking the fresh water from the clean river.

But there was one slight problem the further we hiked the track the steeper the track got. There were evencouple of staircases because the track was so steep. When I got to the top of the staircase There was an open view of the waterfall FINALLY after 3 hours of sore legs, hunched aching backs and rumbling grumbling tummies we arrived at the most fantastic most lovely waterfall I had ever seen!

My friends dared me to run straight underneath he waterfall and I was so silly to say yes.So I slipped on my red Katmandu raincoat and ran like a dart underneath the skinny but strong waterfall and I stepped into the ice cold water,I stepped out of the other side of the waterfall soaking wet,my shoes and socks were as wet as pure raining water and my raincoat was dribbling with water.

After 20 minutes of fun at the waterfall we had to go back to camp and we had to take the exact track we took on the way there.[suprisingly the track was harder and longer on the way back].
After another 3hours we reached the carpark but I was so releived I had completed and survived[slightly] the waterfall hike!

Tremendous Tree Climbing

Tremendous Tree Climbing

“This way”, I shouted down.
“The rope will get tangled that way” he replied. “Good”, I thought.

On the 2-4 March 2009 Rooms 7 & 10 went to Hanmer Springs Forest camp and my favourite activity was tree climbing.

Firstly Carl showed us how to climb the trees.
Then we got started trying the equipment on.
Firstly we put on our harnesses, we made sure they fitted comfortably.
Next was our helpful helmets, they stunk like a sweaty t-shirt, but they could save us if we fell from the trees.

The first tree was a thick Eucalyptus tree. There were two climbs on the that we did. The one that we did was higher than the other group did. Most of my group made it to the top.

There was the next tree it was an extremely tall Pine tree, but skinny with lots of branches. We had to start the tricky climb by climbing up the easy bit the ladder. For about the first ten metres up, there were holds, but then there were none. That made it harder!
Then I reached the top it had spectacular views, then it was the hard way down. I felt like I would fall and hit all of the branches.

Finally a few minutes later I was at the bottom.
then there was another climb, Carl said I could do it. It looked hard but I had to do it. So I started the climb up. I had to push myself to the limits. After a very tiring, 8 minutes I got to the top. It was amazing.

Then the slow pull down. I was relieved that I made it to the top. Hopefully I can do it again.
Then there was the box stacking but thats another story.

Waterfall Walk

Waterfall walk

Sweat was pouring

down my back

and my legs

were floppy and

sore.

How much longer to go

but I’ll tell you

more about that later

We had just arrived at Hanmer. We had put are stuff in our cabins.

We were out in the hot sun in our activity Groups A;B;C;D. A;B and D

were going on the hike. Group C was going mountain biking. Off we went. Now we were in the car going down a rocky road. After about 5;10 mins  we were there.

Getting out of the car we got in to our groups. We had a count and off

we went. My group is first, B. We walked in. There were millions of wasps. Harry was spraying his Aerogaurd madly trying to keep the wasps away. If you stopped and listened you could hear the buzzing really well.

The walk was up hill. Basically all the way the path was muddy and dirty  and surrounded by trees. Sometimes the sun would slip through the gaps in the trees. At some points there were great views. As I walked my legs started to hurt.

Harry moaned madly behind me. We had a stop. Everyone sat down and had a bite and a drink. Harry moaned again but this time about the food He was starving but that was his problem. We just walked another 2 hours. We were finally there at the waterfall. My legs were killing me. The waterfall was massive. I made it up but now I had to come down.

        Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

              Terrifying Tree climbing

I was terrified as I looked up a tree. Today may be the last day I see light. This tree was the tree I was climbing later that day yep it was the second day at activity Hanmer camp the 3rd of March and group A was tree climbing.

I was extremely nervous as I walked over to the trees. At the start we did some awesome warm ups. One was really cool we ran as fast as we could screaming as loud as we could. When we ran out of breathe we stopped. Then we started putting on the tight harnesses and the squishy helmets. We were instructed with a long speech.

I was one of first to climb. I climbed up the ladder I grabbed the first peg and stood on a branch I climbed further and further up. A couple of times I thought of giving up but a small tiny voice at the back of my head said, “don’t give up you can do it.” As I came to the end of the pegs I tried to climb further but I couldn’t.

I peered down cautiously. People looked like tiny bugs encouraging me on and the houses looked like like Lego blocks. I was terrified as the wind whipped my hair; the smell of crusty bark in the air. I shouted that I wanted to come down. They lowered me down as slow as a slug. As I was quickly unclipped I looked up in awe at how far I climbed. As Will was being clipped in I said to him “its fun and scary” and he set off.

Then I climbed two other massive trees and then we went to Lego land a game where you have to stack blocks as fast as you can.

Finally we took off our harnesses and took off our helmets Next I found out that we were doing mountain biking.

This was going to be a long camp!`

Tremendous Tree Climbing

I was terrified as I was about to climb a humongous skyscraper.

Maybe this would be the last day I stand!

It was the second day at activity Hanmer on the 3rd of March and Group A was tree climbing.

My friend Sam and I started on the skyscraper A.K.A the biggest tree. Sam was climbing first so I could release my nerves.

When Sam came down we unclipped him and clipped me up.

I started to climb the ladder. I was feeling nervous as I was about to climb a huge height.

When I was off the ladder I gripped the first peg and started to climb. I gripped peg by peg, branch by branch.

When I was at the top I looked down and everyone looked as small as ants yelling at me to go on and then I smelt the afternoon tea  waiting for me. It smelt as good as chocolate pudding.

After that I climbed down and went over to the next exciting tree climbing challenge. Before I climbed I had to be a back up belay. A back up belay is a person who takes all the lose rope and puts it in a basket.

After that it was my turn to climb. Like the first time I made it to the top and back down again.

Then I was on to my last tree same again up and down. Next my mum bought us some afternoon tea which we gobbled quickly.

Now we where doing the main event, it was called Lego Land. It was a game where you had to stack blocks. We did boys vs girls The girls won.

So I guess this won’t be the last day I stand or will it!

Waterfall Hike

Waterfall hike

Monday after lunch we drove down to waterfall hike track for school camp. We were all excited to see the waterfall but one thing was wrong there were killer wasps…. not really but there was thousand of them everywhere you turn!! When we finally started the lung crushing hike there were so many huge trees and cool view and excited bugs and insect to see and spot. It took 1hr and 20min to get there. When we at last got there the waterfall was massive. We took a few pictures had a yummy snack and set on back to the cars. On the way back it was more fun because some others and me split up from the main group and hiked ourselves with no adult. We kept on stoping and starting. We ate Guses Afghans and baking. When we got back we waited for a bit and then went back to Camp!!!!!!!
